The Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau at Waimea Bay and the Quiksilver Mavericks "Men Who Ride Mountains" at Half Moon Bay are the two most prestigious big wave events on the planet.  During the winter of 1999, Mother Nature was nice enough to allow both of these events to take place within three months of each other.
